You couldnt make it up
Its being suggested that Gareth Southgate could be the next England manager. It makes my mind boggle at the doublethink that abounds in football when so many were questioning BFS as having no top club or international experience. What the F** is wrong with people/

Hopefully with the UK leaving the EU we can do away with the rule that the Premier League can't exclude EU players and have the majority of its players English.

Agree on Wenger to a degree, but we don't really want a foreigner, do we? Not xenophobia, just some things should just BE when it comes to National representation.

No real opinion on Southgate yet. He's done OK with U21s, he knows - for better or worse - the "system" and the FA and I imagine him a man of good character. The worst thing aimed at him? He made an advert that mocked HIMSELF!

Loew was no great shakes as a club manager, as endlessly pointed out. Ferguson was a shit player. Mourinho is "jumped up" translator. There's no "rule".

Disband the National team? FFS. Why not just abolish English football altogether?

What you COULDN'T make up is FA now investigating whether Moussa Dembele can be shoehorned into being an "English" player. (See Januzaj, remember him?) Now that's sad.

The decent England managers have been the ones who have had success and understood the English game.

Wenger for me, all day long. If he was English would there even be another candidate? He clearly fancies a bit of it, mainly because he knows we can't get any worse.

England have employed managers who have won everything and have trophies falling out of their arsehole.....they didn't do any better than those who had hardly any experience.

International management is nothng like club management. As long as the bloke knows his football, is intelligent and has some bollocks, it should be enough.

England have employed plenty of managers with the first two of those. It's the last one that has caused issues. Trying to shoe horn in the "big names" at every fucking tournament has been our major issue for 20 years now.

I'm an Englishman and love my country, but I would disband the national disappointment that is the England National Team.

The list of reasons is as long as your arm. And considering the last truely competitive and unlucky England side were around 12 years ago, it's time to kill it off.

Who cares about the England team these days.

Swiss. 6:03 Mon Oct 3

So who should they go for then? A bloke who has been geared towards managing England and won't cost the earth.

Or a bloke who has a CV as long as your arm and will cost the earth..... But probably won't win fuck all.

Southgate, Wenger, Guardiola. Wouldn't make a difference to this lot. Look at Cappello's credentials? Still screwed up.

But it's typical FA that they will compromise and go for Southgate.

Who else wants it?

Southgate has been preened and prepared for this job via the St Georges Park system. So we will see how good it is now won't we?

I think the whole point of it was to get young managers and shape them into England managers so we didn't have to spend £6m a year on blokes who have won everything but come to us and win fuck all.

Jefferson - Southgate won the toulon u21 tournament in the summer.

Which means he's already won more than cuntface

We've got Payet - the England midfield can go fuck itself.

Re: You couldnt make it up
What Im getting at is that the doubt shed on BFS who had a history of getting teams out of trouble and so is a measure of success were others failed I thought was simplu wrong but now we have a potebtial manager that has no history of success whatsoever and no one seems bothered

Re: You couldnt make it up
I reckon I could make up a story more unbelievable than a former England player being England manager.

FFS, someone once made up a story about a supreme being and his undead son and someone even cleverer did one about a talking bear that wore a duffel coat.

I think the quality of our players is infinitely better. Infinitely. We just have very rich tired footballers by the summer who want to be on the beach.

spot on ron. look at belgium. 20 odd years ago they realised they had an issue and look at the players they have produced now. its no coincidence hazard, de bryne etc are all a similar age...

did the national team do any better pre-96 before we had all the foreign players?

Forgot to say nobody wants an english manager neither.

Re: You couldnt make it up
Sooner or later the england squad will have about 12 players who don't play regular first team football for their clubs, with 3/4 regular championship players, with a championship standard manager like southgate.

The goalkeepers pool is terrible. I can't think of hardly any centre backs coming through. Holding, Oxford, Burke....is there any others?

English football is dying because nobody wants to play English players, teams go for foreigners, and the cost of players like Ibe, Gayle, Townsend etc are too much for most clubs to compete with anyway.

If I were the FA I'd change the rules, you have to field 4 or 5 ENGLISH players.
